South Africa's longest-running film festival, the UGU Film Festival contributes to expanding filmmaker networks. We are an internationally acclaimed and fast growing annual film festival that has been in existence since 2013. The event have been growing its fan base and followed both industry practitioners and general public from all races. We were honoured with Umyezane Award in 2018 by The Department of Economic Development, (2) Ugu Ambassador Award in 2017 by Ugu District Municipality, (3) SAFTAs Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016 by NFVF for Best Provincial Development Initiative. We had a successful 9th edition that opened with an local epic films like The Foggy Mountain, Monkey Twins, UNCOVERED in January 2020. All scheduled workshops and rural community visits went as planned. Action Film titled RED CARGO was successfully filmed in between activities, championed by Senzo Zindela, directed by Patrick Garcia, Peter Pham from Vietnam, Menzi Ngubane, & Simon Kook from Thailand. Ugu Film Festival (UGUFF) is annual festival for emerging and experienced film makers, a first festival in South Africa that goes beyond artistic films by accommodating all kinds of genres i.e. action, sci-fi etc. This event is geared towards giving emerging and experienced film makers equal opportunities to showcase their talent.
